Specifically I would recommend the Xiandai Hanyu Guifan Cidian, which gives the following definition: 在辩论中对论题持赞成或肯定意见的一方(跟“反方”相区别) Basically, it's a debating term for the affirmative side (compared to 反方 which is the negative side). '方' can be thought of as side or party (e.g. 甲方,乙方 in contracts etc). Quote
