vcott Posted August 20, 2014 at 12:10 PM Report Posted August 20, 2014 at 12:10 PM So I ordered via Amazon the Mandarin spoken verions of Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, and discovered upon receiving them that none of them will play in my DVD players due to different regions. So, where can I download versions of these in Mandarin? Is there no Mandarin equivalent of Piratebay? I've got 50 bucks worth of Mandarin DVDs now that I can't play, and I'm not feeling like buying a new DVD player just to watch them... Quote
MoTzu Posted August 20, 2014 at 12:37 PM Report Posted August 20, 2014 at 12:37 PM I'd suggest doing a google search for the model number of your dvd player and see if it's able to be region unlocked. A lot of them can by putting in a combination of buttons on the remote Quote
Shelley Posted August 20, 2014 at 12:44 PM Report Posted August 20, 2014 at 12:44 PM Will they not play in a DVD player on a PC using VLC or GOM? Quote
Ruben von Zwack Posted August 20, 2014 at 12:46 PM Report Posted August 20, 2014 at 12:46 PM I had an issue like that and converted the DVD on my laptop to just a simple film format. I used Freemake, which is a freeware. The whole process is still a bit inconvenient though, so I'm not advocating it as a solution. Rather a workaround if everything else fails. Quote
vcott Posted August 20, 2014 at 12:50 PM Author Report Posted August 20, 2014 at 12:50 PM already emailed customer support for both my players and they kindly suggested I buy a different player....so a no go... Quote
vcott Posted August 20, 2014 at 12:53 PM Author Report Posted August 20, 2014 at 12:53 PM i can play it on my laptop, but it's a fraction of the size of my TV. I went down to Chinatown and asked around but the couple people I asked said to just download it and forget trying to use a DVD...one old guy even thought it funny I had bothered to buy the Chinese DVDs. Problem was the three people that suggested that didn't know how to tell me in English where to look. One lady said her son does it all the time but she doesn't know where he goes online to find them. Quote

character Posted August 21, 2014 at 10:38 AM Report Posted August 21, 2014 at 10:38 AM You might look here for unlock steps: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks or http://www.multi-region.net/ I've had good luck with ones from Philips; YMMV. Quote
James3 Posted August 22, 2014 at 12:26 AM Report Posted August 22, 2014 at 12:26 AM I wonder if you used a DVD ripping tool to rip it, could you then turn around and burn it back to DVD, and if that version of the DVD would then play in your DVD player. Quote
oceancalligraphy Posted August 22, 2014 at 05:00 AM Report Posted August 22, 2014 at 05:00 AM A little OT, but I didn't know there was a Mandarin spoken version of Lord of the Rings. I saw The Two Towers when it was in theaters in Taiwan. It was in English with Chinese subtitles. I don't remember if there were separate English and Mandarin versions, or if only the English one was available. Quote
vcott Posted October 24, 2014 at 07:25 PM Author Report Posted October 24, 2014 at 07:25 PM following up on this, does anyone know where to buy/download MP4 copies of the entire Harry Potter series in dubbed Mandarin? I know they exist because there are short clips on youtube and I have a single dvd copy of one of them. I don't want to hassle with trying to rip 8 DVDs myself (I tried to do the one I have and the quality just isn't very good and it took me forever). Quote
kagato Posted October 27, 2014 at 12:32 PM Report Posted October 27, 2014 at 12:32 PM I was sincerely hoping there would be a link to a downloadable Mandarin Harry Potter/LotR when I opened this thread. Quote
