把你给呛了

meatie

Recommended Posts

Sometimes in relationships either one of the two people involved may feel they are being stopped from doing things, they may feel "choked".

In this situation what they maybe trying to say that they are feeling suffocated, a common expression meaning they feel unable to be themselves.

It could be that this is what is meant.

Sigh. I have been speaking Mandarin since I was a small child, and if in doubt always check with my partner or peers in order to give a response that has both my input as an L2 learner and the input of native speakers without linguistic knowledge.

This is pretty straight-forward though. 呛了 here makes me assume she wasn't speaking, was pouting, was flabbergasted or something, and the friend is offering an amusing way of pointing it out by asserting there's a) another woman, and b) the other woman has pushed her way into first place, which would leave her "choked" in the way we say "I am a little choked that I didn't get chosen for the scholarship."
