edelweis Posted September 11, 2014 at 05:12 PM Report Share Posted September 11, 2014 at 05:12 PM So I contacted a Chinese guy I knew a few years ago on a social network, he wrote he couldn't remember who I was and 名字对不上人 Could someone explain to me what this means? does 人 refer to him, or me, or neither? and what is the meaning of the resultative 上 here? anonymoose Posted September 11, 2014 at 09:40 PM Report Share Posted September 11, 2014 at 09:40 PM 对不上 means cannot match together. Here, you could think of 上 as "together". So 名字对不上人 would be something like "cannot match the name to a person". In other words, you tell him your name, but he cannot recall the corresponding person (you).
