question about fish maw

I have a question about the non-fried fish maw (魚肚/鱼肚 or 花膠/花胶) commonly sold at Cantonese herbal shops.  Is it commonly sold soaked or covered in oil? I would like to find out because I want to try to make fish bladder glue from fish maw.  (Oil will make this type of glue unusable).  Has anyone tried making glue from fish maw as well?
