South: National Day holiday travel

Recommended Posts

I want to go somewhere this coming National Holiday - but I'm a bit worried about everything being overcrowded to the point of. . . well. . . getting worked up by the usual Chinese-crowd things and not really enjoying it. . .

This would be in Guangdong province or nearby.

I was thinking Guilin for a bit, but it sounds like it's going to be insane.

Any alternatives?
Any experiences of travel during this time?

Also curious about this!

I know everyone's traveling everywhere pretty much during this time, but are there any particular places where there should be comparatively less people traveling to?? I don't want to waste the week-long vacation but I also don't wanna have too much trouble with buying tickets and lodging or having the destination be utterly and completely overrun with other visitors either.

Not really. All touristy places inside China will be extremely crowded over the Oct 1 holidays. Wealthier Chinese generally try to travel outside the country for these long national holidays.
