haley_usa Posted September 17, 2014 at 03:32 AM Report Share Posted September 17, 2014 at 03:32 AM I'm a Mandarin newbie, so I've been trying to read a Chinese art forum. Basically, people post their drawings and art tutorials and people comment on it. I keep seeing the word "沙发"pop up. The dictionary says it means "sofa", but it's being used as slang. On the Chinese Wikipedia ( http://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%B2%99%E7%99%BC_%28%E7%B6%B2%E8%B7%AF%E7%94%A8%E8%AA%9E%29 ), I think this article is saying it's the English equivalent to "First!" when you are the first commenter. Am I correct? I can't understand the reason why they use the word "sofa". On the art forum, people's comments will literally only say ""沙发" + an emoji, or the original poster will say "沙发" as the first comment on their own forum. Here are other examples (made by the original poster): 沙发自己抢了. < (I think it means "I took the first comment for myself"?) 自己的沙发还是自己来吧~多久没发帖就多久没占自己的沙发了!www < (Not sure, something about their own "first" comment and not posting on the forum in a long time.) haley_usa Posted September 19, 2014 at 01:51 AM Author Report Share Posted September 19, 2014 at 01:51 AM Thank you both! I browsed through the other slang terms on chinaSMACK. I also take it that 板凳 = 2nd. Sorry this was kind of a repeat thread. I thought it wasn't a popular term, so I didn't think of searching the forums before asking. I will do that in the future when I have another question.
