Finding an apartment in Beijing

Since now I kn ow I'm moving to Beijing, here's a question for all you laobeijing: what's best when looking for an apartment? should I contact a real estate agency? or maybe through the classifieds in That's Beijing and the like?

One other thing, someone suggested in another thread that Dongzhimen would be a good place to live in, because it's close to a supermarket and to Sanlitun. Any other suggestions?
