What does this 成语 actually mean?

远在天边 far away near heaven

近在眼前 close in front of your eyes

Posted

我的眼镜在哪里吗?

远在天边,近在眼前。 Would that be a correct usage of the phrase?

Hahaha, well... I guess technically yes but it sounds a bit silly.

Perhaps it would be more like "what you search for is right in front of you", in that it is a "fancy" way to say "在你面前". I would never respond to the question 诶,我的眼镜在哪里? with 远在天边,近在眼前 unless I was trying (and likely failing as I usually do) to be funny/stupid.

PS. there is no 吗 on the end of that question.

Thanks for that. I always get that wrong with '吗‘。

My girlfriend often asks me:

你爱我吗?

To which I reply;

我还不认识你妈啊!

I  can't understand why she gets angry! Must be a Chinese thing!

I am not good with internet humour, but I imagine she gets angry because you're being a donk.

No humour? Try this one:

My girlfriend treats me like God.

She only acknowledges my existence when she wants something!

If I translate that, would Chinese people laugh? I'll try it!
