The state media tonight reported that public transport workers in Hong Kong has had a 50% pay cut because of the protests. This sounds a bit like made up news, e.g. workers would be under contract, so a pay reduction isn't likely.

Has this, or anything similarly actually happened?

There's been a bit of a ruckus. Seemingly between the triads and the students. I got that far before hong kong labelled urls began to get poisoned.
