侮辱

New to these forums and I wish to start off by saying - Thank you for this cooperative knowledge bank!

 

我的问题是，“侮辱”这个词有什么用法呢？可以说明一下吗？

 

我知道可以用它作为动词和名词。

 

但是，我不太明白在我词典里的“侮辱”定义中的一个例子：“你这样做是对我的侮辱。” 在那个句子里，”侮辱“是名词，是不是？

翻译成英语，是不是这个意思呢：”What you are doing is an insult to me."

 

不好意思，我刚才写的可能写得不太清楚了！我在这个论坛里应该只用英语来问问题，对不对？哈哈。。。

I think so. You can also say 你這麼做是侮辱我.

 

BTW, 多米 is a good name, as good as 錢多多.

Kenny同志，The whole "你这样做是对我的侮辱" structure only makes sense by leaping over my English logic mindset, and even then I feel my grasp is weak at best. Why not simply say "你這麼做是侮辱我" ??   

 

关于我的名字，我刚开始学习中文的时候，我上了网找到一个相符我英语名字的中文名字 - ”多米尼克“。但是当时我也觉得这么长的名字有点儿麻烦，所以我就把它剪成了“多米”。恰好我也两米高！

I find it insulting when you do that to me

 

All of the above are correct English.  Which one is the correct one to use when someone does something that insults you?  All of them.  Language is full of variety often there are multiple ways to express basically the same thing, and that applies to Chinese as well as English.

Personally I like my own version better but I wouldn't say the sentence you quoted is wrong. Look at it this way:

 

你這樣做是  對我的  侮辱。

Doing that is     an insult    that is aimed at me.

多米=家中有糧，不愁吃（米，rice）: )

多米 is good. In Cantonese sometimes we describe rich people as 有米.

If I ever get a perplexed look at the sound of my name, I simply explain: 很多的”多“，米饭的"米“!
