Gary Soup Posted May 16, 2005 at 05:10 AM Report Posted May 16, 2005 at 05:10 AM When I retire in a couple of years I plan to spend a lot of time in Shanghai (we already have an apartment there) and one of the things I'm looking forward to is rooting for the Shanghai Golden Eagles. It's hard to find information in English about the China Baseball League, but I do know that the Eagles are on a roll, with a six-game winning streak going into the All-Star break, and in hopes of catching up with the Beijing Tigers and Tianjin Lions. Does anyone follow the CBL? What are the players' strengths? Are there any good websites (other than the CBL Official website) for keeping up with the games? Quote
天峰 Posted May 16, 2005 at 01:07 PM Report Posted May 16, 2005 at 01:07 PM that is great to hear becase chinese baseball has come along way. I watched alot of games in the last two years and I saw alot of improvement. I also played aginst alot of the players in some pick-up games with my Beijing bears team. I am not sure of anywhere other than the offical site but wehn i was talking to the sone of the managers last time I was there he told me they were upgrading the site and that you would be able to watch games online at some point this year. What are your opinions on the calabur of players? I think the teams are over coached adn the play too much small ball. They also need to be calm on the base paths. I saw so many teams run themselves out of rallys it wasn't funny. Quote

I have yet to actually see them play. I have no doubt that some day baseball will catch on in China the way it has in Taiwan, Korea and Japan, but I don't think the critical mass of interest is there yet. I have heard that there is a long history of baseball being played by college teams in China, at least in Shanghai and perhaps Beijing, but perhaps just for recreation. Quote
