No need to stop, Lu. It's probably just fine.

 

One of the things I find really difficult in Chinese is slang. I don't know whether I should or should not say things like 哈喽 when messaging. Don't really have a good feel for what's age and gender appropriate.

 

Sometimes I find out that (as an old man) I'm using figures of speech more popular with middle-school teenagers in pigtails and braces. Then I feel foolish and stop. Tends to makes my messages (and speech) kind of stilted and bookish.

 

Guess I need to watch more 电视剧。
