abcdefg Posted November 4, 2014 at 11:12 AM Author Report Posted November 4, 2014 at 11:12 AM No need to stop, Lu. It's probably just fine. One of the things I find really difficult in Chinese is slang. I don't know whether I should or should not say things like 哈喽 when messaging. Don't really have a good feel for what's age and gender appropriate. Sometimes I find out that (as an old man) I'm using figures of speech more popular with middle-school teenagers in pigtails and braces. Then I feel foolish and stop. Tends to makes my messages (and speech) kind of stilted and bookish. Guess I need to watch more 电视剧。 Did find this, which has some good vocabulary, but it's limited: http://thinkingchinese.com/modern-chinese-slang Quote
