mandarina Posted October 31, 2014 at 10:40 AM Report Posted October 31, 2014 at 10:40 AM Hi guys, So my students kept asking me to collect my favorite tips and resources that would benefit beginner students. I wrote them down in an ebook that is now available through Amazon here. The free sample is quite long, enough to give you an idea of the general tone of the ebook. Thanks! Eva 2 Quote
Shelley Posted October 31, 2014 at 05:48 PM Report Posted October 31, 2014 at 05:48 PM I could only access the cover, table of contents and 2 paragraph of the intro. Am I missing something? Quote
James3 Posted October 31, 2014 at 07:28 PM Report Posted October 31, 2014 at 07:28 PM Shelley, she's referring to the Kindle version, I think. The free sample is quite long Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but all I see in the Kindle version is the dedication, copyright, and introduction, all for a total of 2 pages. So, I'm only seeing as much as Shelley said she was. I bet there's a glitch with the way it's showing the sample. Quote
lechuan Posted October 31, 2014 at 07:39 PM Report Posted October 31, 2014 at 07:39 PM The title of your book is the same as Olle Linge's popular Hacking Chinese blog. Any relation? Quote
mandarina Posted October 31, 2014 at 10:33 PM Author Report Posted October 31, 2014 at 10:33 PM Hi guys, sorry about that. There's going to be a free ebook promo (geez, I almost wrote porno, too tired...) this Monday-Friday, 3-7 November. Happy Halloween! Quote
hedwards Posted November 1, 2014 at 03:35 AM Report Posted November 1, 2014 at 03:35 AM That's good, one of my pet peeves are those "free samples" that don't actually include any content at all. I can understand not wanting to give the key concepts away, but when the sample ends before any of the book has started I have to question why have a sample at all. And it seems to be a fairly common occurrence too. IMHO, blurbs and commentary about why I should be buying the book ought to be free. Quote
mandarina Posted November 10, 2014 at 11:56 AM Author Report Posted November 10, 2014 at 11:56 AM For anyone that's interested, the book is for free now. Quote
OneEye Posted November 10, 2014 at 12:47 PM Report Posted November 10, 2014 at 12:47 PM Care to answer about the "Hacking Chinese" thing? Maybe I should write an ebook called "Rosetta Stone: How to learn Chinese characters." I'm sure that would go over well. 1 Quote
hedwards Posted November 10, 2014 at 04:40 PM Report Posted November 10, 2014 at 04:40 PM OneEye, you do have a point, but by the same token, given the origins of the name "Rosetta Stone" it takes some rather large stones to get upset with people using similar names. One of the unfortunate truths about writing non-fiction books is that there's a relatively small number of possible titles that accurately describe the contents of a book in a way that the reader will understand before reading it. Unfortunately a poorly researched title sometimes means a poorly researched book. Quote
lechuan Posted November 11, 2014 at 12:31 AM Report Posted November 11, 2014 at 12:31 AM I did not mean to "stir the pot", just genuinely curious if there was an affiliation with Olle Linge's blog. @mandarina are you looking for feedback on the book? Quote
Shelley Posted November 11, 2014 at 12:48 AM Report Posted November 11, 2014 at 12:48 AM I, too, am curious "if there was an affiliation with Olle Linge's blog" Quote
mandarina Posted December 16, 2014 at 02:24 PM Author Report Posted December 16, 2014 at 02:24 PM Hi everyone, no connection with Olle - I know he is big in the community, The term 'hacking' or 'hack' is just very hot in the education, self-study environment these days. @lechuan - no need for reviews anymore, thanks for offering though. I just published another book on HSK I, let me know if you'd be interested. Quote
