思辨 in English?

I've been trying to find a decent translation of the concept of 思辨 in English (note it is also sometimes written as 思辩).

 

My 现代汉语规范词典 defines it thus:

 

思辨 sībiàn
①动思考辨别。
思辨是非正误
②动哲学上指运用逻辑推导进行理论上的思考。
思辨性

 

My translation: "to analyse at an intellectual level; to engage in critical thinking."

 

Am I on the right track? Do you think there is a better translation available? Thanks.

Not particularly different to yours, but perhaps 'critically analyse' or 'critically evaluate'.
