roddy Posted May 18, 2005 at 02:39 AM Report Posted May 18, 2005 at 02:39 AM Has anyone used the English > Chinese dictionary / translation function of the Google toolbar? I'm curious as to what dictionary they are using, and how effective it is. I might try it out myself later, but it'll mean starting IE. Relevant Google Page Quote
zhwj Posted May 18, 2005 at 05:50 AM Report Posted May 18, 2005 at 05:50 AM Would the toolbar translation be the same thing as their language tools? I can't reach that, so I wonder whether the toolbar would work from Beijing. Quote
roddy Posted May 18, 2005 at 05:54 AM Author Report Posted May 18, 2005 at 05:54 AM Presumably it would run off the same dataset. That page loads for me fine, by the way, also in Beijing. Quote
roddy Posted May 18, 2005 at 09:24 AM Author Report Posted May 18, 2005 at 09:24 AM Just installed it - gives you a load of possible Chinese words when you hover over an English word, but with no pinyin or usage info. Potentially helpful for Chinese people reading English websites, but not so quick or comprehensive as the ubiquitous 金山词霸. Back to FireFox for me, IE just doesn't cut it any more . . . Roddy Quote
zhwj Posted May 19, 2005 at 03:27 AM Report Posted May 19, 2005 at 03:27 AM I wonder if the Baidu bar does the same thing (which, for spyware reasons, I'm even more hesitant to install). To clarify, I can load up the Google Language Tools, but it times out whenever I try to translate anything. Quote
