Lu Posted November 18, 2014 at 01:05 PM Report Posted November 18, 2014 at 01:05 PM No. It means 'Yesterday all kinds of for example yesterday die, today all kinds of for example today live'. Quote
skylee Posted November 18, 2014 at 02:02 PM Report Posted November 18, 2014 at 02:02 PM Re #2. Not sure if that is a serious reply. Have you read/heard Cao Cao's 短歌行? "譬如朝露,去日苦多"? "For example"? Seriously? http://humanum.arts.cuhk.edu.hk/cgi-bin/agrep-lindict?query=Ĵ&category=wholerecord Quote
Lu Posted November 18, 2014 at 02:54 PM Report Posted November 18, 2014 at 02:54 PM Seriously? No, I haven't read Cao Cao's poetry. There is a rather large number of things I haven't read, and Cao Cao is among them. I don't mind my mistakes being pointed out, but there is no need to be sarcastic. Perhaps when you're done pointing out where I get it wrong, you can give the OP a better answer than I could. Quote
Tiana Posted November 18, 2014 at 07:47 PM Report Posted November 18, 2014 at 07:47 PM khahlin: does this translation make any sense? My answer: the "translation" makes some sense but has no connection with the original English. The "translator" probably didn't understand what the original English means. (The so-called "translation" is in fact a well-known quote, and not a translation ) PS: Personally, I think "昨日种种譬如昨日死,今日种种譬如今日生" means "Forget the past, live the present!" Quote
New Members khahlin Posted November 18, 2014 at 08:40 PM Author New Members Report Posted November 18, 2014 at 08:40 PM thank you for the replies so far. i did notice that i had a typo in the original post. Yield not to fate, for choiceopposes destiny. and Let go of the battle. Breathe quietly and let it be. Typo fixed. If "昨日种种譬如昨日死,今日种种譬如今日生" is in fact a Quote and not a translation then pls kindly translate. I know google translate doesn't do much in terms of accuracy when it comes to phrases so that is out of the picture. Quote
