maigheann Posted December 12, 2014 at 06:08 PM Report Posted December 12, 2014 at 06:08 PM Hello. When referring to an oven, (it is a small electric oven, like a toaster oven), should it be 一只电烤箱, or 一台电烤箱 , or something else? Thanks! Quote

New Members trifle Posted December 12, 2014 at 09:50 PM New Members Report Posted December 12, 2014 at 09:50 PM Thanks. I do favor 只. Do you think 只 is acceptable for a small HP laserjet printer too ( which is even smaller than the taster oven)? ABC CE dictionary says it should be 台, but the printer is not very big or heavy. 一只打印机 How about for the stovetop of a kitchen range? Should it be 一面灶台, or 一台灶台? Quote

Angelina Posted December 13, 2014 at 09:02 AM Report Posted December 13, 2014 at 09:02 AM The conclusion is that it is more acceptable to use 只 with super tiny printers than with super tiny toaster ovens, right? Quote
Lu Posted December 14, 2014 at 10:01 PM Report Posted December 14, 2014 at 10:01 PM My first thought was 台 for most if not all non-moving electric household appliances (from computers to toasters). I was surprised someone said 部. Quote
Kenny同志 Posted December 15, 2014 at 02:45 AM Report Posted December 15, 2014 at 02:45 AM I use 一個電烤箱(informal) or 一台電烤箱. 一隻電烤箱 sounds weird and wrong to my ear. Quote
