Hello Poeple!!!

As I was doing my chinese homework, I ran across the phrase 就行了. The sentance I am translating is 我家离学校很近,就行了。That last phrase is very confusing. All of the translation sites say on the line, but it doesn't fit the sentance topic. Please help!

谢谢大家!

The comma looks out of place, are you sure there's a comma there in the original? It would also look more natural to me without the “很”.

In modern Mandarin Chinese, “行” is essentially just a slightly more colloquial version of “可以”, so in this instance, “就行了” ≈ “就可以了”.

It's also important to note that in Mandarin, words signifying conditionals (“如果”, “要是”, “只要” etc.) are often left out. In this case, we could also add “只要” (“as long as”) at the beginning of the sentence to make it clearer.

Bearing this in mind, you could translate “[只要] 我家离学校近就行了” as “as long as my house is close to school it's fine”. In other words, I don't care too much about other things (maybe it's not a great house, my room is small, my housemates are unsociable, the rent is a bit high etc.), as long as my house is close to school.

Kelsey3, is there anything else either before or after the sentence "我家离学校很近,就行了。" ?
