Cities with good indie music scenes?

Besides Beijing, what cities have good indie/underground music scenes? I have a decent enough language level that I can make my way to just about anywhere.

Taipei. A lot of Beijing bands do perform in Shanghai from time to time. The local bands are mostly crap.

gato: omg... going to taiwan would be so cool but I could definitely not afford airfare lol! I prefer a place where I can go by train! I am going to see PK14 in Shanghai next week  

 

realmayo: did some googling and it seems like wuhan might be really cool. I could train it there too for a weekend

From my experience it's really just Beijing and to a lesser degree Shanghai that have a real music scene, and even here in Beijing the scene can feel a bit small according to some regular concert-goers.

 

Personally I have no complaints at all, I like what's on offer here in Beijing and when I want to listen to some music I have the choice of about 5-6 solid live houses and pubs with stages. But I've travelled other cities like Chengdu and Kunming and tried to locate a similar scene with no success.
