To me, the two definitions given in the free dictionary are essentially the same. In either case, something happens (or not) by a very narrow margin. As for danger, well I guess it depends on perspective. If you are a supporter of one of the football teams, then it's potential elimination might seem like a dangerous situation.

 

As I'm not a native speaker, I can't comment on whether the example sentence I made is good Chinese or not. I can only say that in 今晚會很懸乎, the intended meaning was an implied meaning that the game, in particular 曼联's success is very 悬乎.
