Tianjin42 Posted January 3, 2015 at 04:50 AM Report Posted January 3, 2015 at 04:50 AM Do you seriously think on reading the content of the forum that it is sponsored by the Chinese government? In other news I hear Middle Eastern Dialogues Forums is sponsored by ISIS. Seriously though, do tell us a little about yourself and what you would like to discuss. 2 Quote
陳德聰 Posted January 3, 2015 at 06:33 AM Report Posted January 3, 2015 at 06:33 AM It may be worth it to look up resources for psychologists in your area of Harbin. Just a few months ago you were feeling better. What has changed? 2 Quote
skylee Posted January 3, 2015 at 06:42 AM Report Posted January 3, 2015 at 06:42 AM Why bother if there are only complaints? I suspect they wouldn't be something unheard of? 1 Quote
Popular Post imron Posted January 3, 2015 at 06:48 AM Popular Post Report Posted January 3, 2015 at 06:48 AM Of course you're welcome to talk about your experience. You'll note in fact that previously you were given plenty of helpful advice both before and after you arrived in China, and the negative reaction you got was in response to your own rudeness/childishness rather than any government conspiracy. I'd point to specific examples, but you went through and edit-deleted your old posts. I don't expect people will take much interest in what you have to say if you're planning to do that again. So, feel free to post, but make sure it's something you mean to say and are prepared to stand behind. 9 Quote

liuzhou Posted January 3, 2015 at 08:33 AM Report Posted January 3, 2015 at 08:33 AM You must be the only person on the planet who thought China was 'socialist'. But again just a litany of complaints about everyone except yourself. You came to China and it wasn't what you expected. Get over it and you might actually find it is something else entirely which isn't necessarily bad. Your suggestion that this site is a Chinese government conspiracy is ridiculous beyond words. Nor are we all "staunch pro-china". As I mentioned before I hated my first two months in China and there are still aspects of China I don't like, starting with the self-appointed idiots in charge. But in the 19 years I've stayed, I've found much to delight in. But then, I'm not a selfish idiot who wants everything here to be some pipe dream or fantasy. Nor do I go about insulting people by calling both Chinese people and other foreigners "retarded". Grow up! 3 Quote

Popular Post Demonic_Duck Posted January 3, 2015 at 08:53 AM Popular Post Report Posted January 3, 2015 at 08:53 AM The OP is ridiculous and his posts read like an angry 13-year-old (I think I'm going to adopt "so why you shock yourself MF" as my new catchphrase), but I still can't get past the fact that some Chinese universities will advertise a course as taught in English, and then teach it in Chinese. I mean, that's like selling a product as "100% orange juice", and it turns out to actually be 100% apple juice (and it just so happens that I'm allergic to apples). 5 Quote
Demonic_Duck Posted January 3, 2015 at 09:32 AM Report Posted January 3, 2015 at 09:32 AM That's hilarious, seeing as I actually am a student right now, and seeing as the point you're attacking is actually in your favour. The analogy is that the what is sold may in most ways be very similar to what is delivered, but the differences (the fact it's taught in Chinese/the fact it's made out of apples) make it completely worthless to the consumer (as they don't speak Chinese/are allergic to apples). 2 Quote

淨土極樂 Posted January 3, 2015 at 10:15 AM Report Posted January 3, 2015 at 10:15 AM The thing you have to understand about Chinese universities is that nobody gives a damn what the lectures are about and how are they handled as long as everyone gets their diploma. All the Chinese care about is the university's name, because it affects one's employment prospects. Nobody's actually interested in learning anything, everyone just goes through the motions until they get their diploma. Had a long talk with a Chinese person on this topic the last night and the above was basically her response. 3 Quote
DernierVirage Posted January 3, 2015 at 10:22 AM Report Posted January 3, 2015 at 10:22 AM This site is a fantastic place for intelligent, useful debate and I hate to see it being polluted by threads like this. The best start to my new year would be to see this thread being locked !! 1 Quote
Popular Post Lu Posted January 3, 2015 at 10:45 AM Popular Post Report Posted January 3, 2015 at 10:45 AM Sujeto, I'm glad you came back to report. I'm sorry to see that you're having such a bad experience. It looks like despite your anger and your culture shock, you did try to make the best of it, but didn't find any good way to make it work. I hope there are alternatives for you. Perhaps you can transfer to another university in Beijing? I do, however, object to you telling us we're all philandering drug users. There are quite a number of those in China, but very few of them on this forum, and I don't appreciate being called names. Consider apologising for that. The people on this forum have been nothing but helpful ever since you showed up. 10 Quote
Guest realmayo Posted January 3, 2015 at 11:36 AM Report Posted January 3, 2015 at 11:36 AM If the OP had not written the bit about "you foreigners are all bad" I think it would be a really good post & hopefully people considering non-language degrees in China will find it useful in the future. Sujeto has been messed around by his university and the complaints seem perfectly justified. I'd be angry and frustrated too. It looks like sujeto was responding to a request to report back, and if the experiences have been so negative, it's understandable that the post if full of complaints. It's a pity that sujeto misunderstands the people on this forum, but maybe he's starting to understand: On this behalf forum, one of the member told me to not come to China to study Engineering, there are better destination to study this as United States. But I didn't understand the reason. So, it's good that you can tell other people the situation now. Now my last hope is to find out that problem is this city and is just that I, carried by ignorance, choose Harbin where I should have choose Peking, Shanghai or Guanzhong, and there, where certainly there isn't such of thing as socialism or communism anymore, at least, people is not that retarded as in Harbin and other kind of foreigners are living there. I think you're asking: if you apply to study a similar degree in a university in another city, will your experience be the same or will it be better? My guess is that if you don't have someone you trust telling you that a certain university in another city will be better, then unfortunately there's a good chance that you'll meet the same situation as you met in Harbin. AdamD Posted January 3, 2015 at 11:38 AM Report Posted January 3, 2015 at 11:38 AM I'm not into feeding trolls but I want to set a few things straight for posterity: the first Chinese citizen who I interacted was the Taxi driver who scammed me 300 Yuan from airport to HIT. Taxi drivers do that everywhere. in a far away hotel named yin yuan or something, located in who-knows-where. TJNU put me up in a hotel. I found the address on the internet because internet. Five minutes of planning got me a long way. This is where I find another personality trait of Chinese people, they think they are in fact the center of world, is something so deep in them, that they can't conceive how a person cannot speak chinese You're in a Chinese university to study advanced topics, and you're wondering why people assume you can speak Chinese? I wouldn't dream of studying anything but Chinese in China unless my Chinese ability were up to scratch. This is obvious. Re 'centre of the world': I've never come across that. Never. Yes most can't speak English well or at all because they're in China. To expect people to switch into English just for you is pure arrogance. You would say, hey take it easy, they are trying to be nice, but no chinese students are not nice, indeed they has not being helpfull I've been three times. I've spoken to several hundred people, including several dozen students. Not one was rude. Not one. China won't miss you. Neither will this forum. Take your harmful racism, your ungrateful shouting and your mind-blowing ignorance, and clear off. 4 Quote
