Been asked for a '存根 / stub' from a Foreign Experts Certificate

I am currently working at a company, but I do not wish to renew.

I have an offer from a school to teach English. I did teach at a school before my current job but no longer have a valid Expert Certificate (or booklet). Pretty much, taught at a school, then unemployed for a few months before getting the current gig.

My question is, what do I have to do as I am asked for The foreign experts work permit stub.(外国专家来华工作许可存根)by the school. I don’t have it and does that mean I have to leave the country to get it or change my visa?

I am in Zhejiang, near Hangzhou, though any administrative details are handled by Huzhou.

Your school has to apply for your foreign expert certificate.

They would usually take your passport, TEFL cert, maybe a few other documents and apply for it. Once they have it, then they go and get your residence permit.

I'm fairly sure that's how it works. If your potential school doesn't know this, you sure they can hire foreigners?

Edit: I would add that the above process would usually take place when you had already arrived on a proper Z visa. You may have to leave and get that visa before you can start the process of obtaining a residence permit for any teaching job.

Tough one, never heard of that before. It sounds like your school is in the process of doing the application, but for whatever reason needs details of your previous FE certificate. Could maybe get in touch with the FE people wherever you were last employed? Probably easier if the school does that.

Sounds like yet another pain in the neck. Anyone else seen this?

A company applied for a work permit for me this summer (August 2014). Hangzhou, teaching English.

It went like this:

1. I had to leave China;

2. I got a criminal record check done back in my hometown;

3. I emailed this paper to the company;

4. the company applied for a work permit and their application was rejected.

I have also heard that a guy who had been teaching legally for a few years had problems getting a new residence permit.

Not sure about Huzhou.
