初试课 - good translation for trial/test lesson or class?

Is 初试 the right way to translate a 'trial' or test of something?  For example a trial lesson or trial class? 初试课? 谢谢！

初试 itself is "preliminary examination/ testing". Depending on what follows it, the actual translation may be different. In your example, 初试课 is "trial lesson/ class"

Good job, skylee. I misunderstood the question and it didn't even occur to me to ask where "初试课" came from.

Consider also the verbs 旁听 and 听课.

“听课” (v.) generally means to observe a class, so this could be for new students, or it could also be teachers observing each other, parents observing their kids' class etc.

 

The word I've heard used for trial/demo class is “试听课” (n.).
