Hello,

I would be most grateful if someone could translate these tattoos attached. They are apparently Kanji and read 'Peace' and 'Love' however I am not entirely convinced as they do not match a lot of the translations online..

Many thanks

爱 love

平和 peace (this is Japanese, not Chinese, if I'm not mistaken. In Chinese, it would usually be 和平.)

You need to turn them clockwise 90 degrees.

The calligraphy is okay but not great (especially that 和 looks a little wonky). And those tattoos look like you've had them for some years already, is that correct?

Thanks Lu,

For some reason the pictures are the wrong way round.

There aren't gaps in the strokes on the tattoo in comparison to the text symbols which confused me a little. So this is fairly accurate in comparison to how it should be? I understand there are different ways of doing the calligraphy?

The tattoos aren't that old, perhaps a year at most, from what I can gather they look old due to the quality of the ink. I shall say they are 'vintage'...

It's accurate.

In English there is a difference between printed letters and handwriting, and different sort of handwriting and calligraphy. It's the same in Chinese. When I type 平, every stroke is clear and precise. When I write it, the two dots end up connected, and the strokes flow into each other more. When a calligraphy master writes it, it looks a bit different again. Hence the differences.
