Flickserve Posted January 19, 2015 at 01:58 AM Report Share Posted January 19, 2015 at 01:58 AM I have to use my Android phone for Skype. I would like to record what my tutor says so that I can review the lesson, listen and repeat sentences. If I read out the text pinyin or words at a later time, it doesn't sound right. I definitely would like the app to work with my headset as I get far better quality during the lesson. Does anybody do this and with what app? jbradfor Posted January 19, 2015 at 03:25 AM Report Share Posted January 19, 2015 at 03:25 AM Does it have to be Skype on an Android tablet? Total Recorder (http://www.totalrecorder.com/) will do that I believe, but it's Windows Desktop only. [No association with that company; I did use their product many years ago and found it did what it said.] And of course, make sure your tutor knows and agrees! Flickserve Posted January 19, 2015 at 07:01 AM Author Report Share Posted January 19, 2015 at 07:01 AM Of course the tutor needs to agree. I am on the road a lot and don't always have access to a computer. Hence, an app for android using my mobile phone would be most convenient. m000gle Posted January 19, 2015 at 07:16 AM Report Share Posted January 19, 2015 at 07:16 AM Your options will be somewhat limited if you are only using a mobile device. If it is at all possible to use a computer (laptop, desktop, Mac, Windows, Linux, anything really), then go that route; the following will assume that's possible. Audacity is an excellent free, open source, and cross-platform audio editor which is both simple to install/use and can do what you need. The fact it can also edit will allow you to adjust volume levels and/or cut out silent or unimportant sections prior to exporting to MP3 etc., is also very useful. You can find more information, and download links, here: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ The official documentation contains a tutorial to record the audio output, with specific setup instructions for Windows, Mac OSX, and Linux: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/tutorial_recording_audio_playing_on_the_computer.html
Flickserve Posted January 19, 2015 at 03:01 PM Author Report Share Posted January 19, 2015 at 03:01 PM Thanks. It's a bit disappointng that it's so difficult to record on android. I will look at audacity for PC again but I think it doesn't record well if I am using headphones.
