@Pancake -- Just saw your notice and tried to send a private message, but it seems like that feature has been turned off.

Just wanted to say that if your decision is related to our recent difference of opinion on another thread, please know that I hold no resentment or rancor over anything that you said. I respect your opinion and you had every right to voice it clearly.

Well, I'll open up his account so you can pm him if you want.

I'm not sure what you're looking for, pancake. If you want to stop posting, it's easy to remove info from your profile, delete your avatar and change your email to something random. If you have an easily-Googleable username you want changed, we can do that too. Wholescale deletion of posts ruins the thread of discussions though, so that's not possible.

Ah,

I tried to help someone who had a problem and then the thread turned pretty NSFW. (Mind you, I am using my real name here. ) For the record, I believe that when it comes to real love, cultural differences are not that important.

I am a huge prude and don't even want to talk about other stuff. The only thing I can say is that I avoid getting a massage (I am talking about legitimate massage places) in China because I don't want to support their businesses. The lower the demand, the lower the supply of young women. Hope more people will join me in this boycott. I am glad abcedefg was concerned about the future of a girl who was working as a masseuse because once she is old, she will be out on the street.

Frankly, I don't see any valid reason for the boycott so long as the massage is legitimate and doesn't involve anything dirty.

At one massage parlour near where I work, most masseuses are married and over 30. They provide massage only and support their families with their hard earned clean cash. Can they do something else? I think they can. But with little education and given today's tight job market, I am afraid most of them will not be able to find a better job. So, instead of boycotting the industry, I wish people could show those masseuses more respect and their greedy employers could pay them a bit more.

There is a difference between people who are qualified to do this and people with primary school education who happen to look nice. Physical therapy and all those small massage parlors in China are not the same thing.

I don't think that the cash that goes into the hands of greedy employers employing unqualified people can be called clean. I would rather support them starting their own small business.

I can understand pancake. However, I don't want to judge other people's decisions. Especially not when it comes to their private matters. I can boycott the things I don't support and that's it.

So are both admins, so you're in good company. There are plenty of legitimate massage places in china. From the other thread abcdefg mentioned his girlfriend worked at one. If she was doing massages she would have received training before starting that work.

Most of the massages I get in China are from middle-aged blind men. They are done fully clothed in a single common room. Eight or ten tables just arranged side by side. Men and women customers mixed together. No frills except a cup of hot water when it's done.

The older masseurs know a lot about TCM and have been very helpful when my neck or back are sore. They also usually give me sound health advice regarding injury prevention. Have shown me specific stretches, exercises and such.

So, instead of boycotting the industry, I wish people could show those masseuses more respect and their greedy employers could pay them a bit more.

I agree with what Kenny said too.

Unfortunately it's all too easy to lump disparate things together. Massage parlors that are a front for prostitution are a different kettle of fish from 推拿,which is one of China's venerable healing arts.

I get a foot massage every week or two and a body massage every week or two, not always at the same time. They are part of my "China health maintenance program." Feel lucky to have discovered their benefits.

That's one of the few occupations that the blind in China can do. So please don't boycott the blind massage workers. I may be deaf but I am very pro-blind too.

How did we get from "delete my account" to debates over the morals of massages?  I missed something....

pancake first expressed his dissatisfaction with the forumites in the "intimate relationship other than marriage" thread. The young lady works as a masseuse.

Pancake has a perception that one of the other posters on this forum is a creep and a 'sexpat', and doesn't want to be on the same forum with him.

It's worth saying that the perception is wrong, very wrong, in my opinion and whatever is going on here has more to do with pancake being 'triggered' than by the private life of this other forum member.

Perhaps we will need trigger warnings in the headings of certain posts.

If this is indeed tied to 'that' thread then it would seem the OP wants to make a statement too. As above, could easily just change your email address and never come here again. No one would ever know but this way we're all in here nattering away about it and none related things.

I never really eat pancakes anyway.
