ZhangKaiRong Posted February 17, 2015 at 09:18 AM Report Posted February 17, 2015 at 09:18 AM Well, Chinese embassies also don't work during Chinese public holidays, so they will receive it after they get back from holiday. I guess this info refers to the fact that during CNY post, DHL, etc. also doesn't deliver packages, and sometimes it can lead to lost deliverables.

Wooo! I freaked out even more. Will definitely wait till they get back to work.
Popular Post shuoshuo Posted February 17, 2015 at 01:37 PM Popular Post Report Posted February 17, 2015 at 01:37 PM Ifyin - the universities you've mentioned are top universities in China. So expect it to be quite competitive to get in, even if you are a foreigner. The best way to find out how to obtain a pre-admissions notice is to call them and ask them what they will need from you. A pre-admissions notice is an official document, that the university makes, to sort of agree to enroll you on the condition that the CSC agrees to fund your fees. So it is definitely not something to take lightly, especially if you want universities that a lot of people want to get into. I know that there are universities that aren't too well-known and they would be willing to offer an admissions notice without even looking at your application documents (obviously they will eventually see your documents when it is sent to them by you or by the CSC through an embassy), but some universities have programmes they try to promote - even these top universities - and if you're applying for such programmes then it's a lot easier to obtain the admissions document. Yes, it is possible to apply so early in the year, hence the prefix 'PRE-admissions'. The official admissions notice will only be sent to you IF you are accepted for the scholarship. It is sent with your JW visa application form. So you never really apply for just the 'admissions notice', it's the pre-admissions that you want. To everyone - The new semester begins some time around the 2nd week of March for most schools. Just to let you know that the teachers will be very busy getting everything back in order, the current scholarship students (including me) might also be very busy with school stuff so we might not come on here as often - so please organize your application plan very well, the coming few weeks is crucial in the success of your application. Again, you need to call the universities, instead of waiting or hoping that the teachers will reply to your emails. The IS office is usually a busy place, they organize stuff for short term students, visiting scholars, and there are prospective students visiting the schools all the time (obviously in person), wanting to know more about the programmes and also trying to apply for the scholarships. They also tend to prefer spending their time convincing self-supporting students to choose their university. So amidsts the hectic schedule, you can expect them to delay with the hundreds or thousands of emails they receive daily at this time of year, from prospective students like YOU who are casually asking for a scholarship... it's like "who isn't?". Keep this in mind: if you were a self-supporting student, wouldn't you call the school often to make sure that your money is going to be an investment on your education? The prospective self-supporting students call ALL THE TIME, I hear my teachers on the phone with them very often. You on the other hand, are asking/pleading or perhaps even begging for an all-expenses paid degree. So your effort should be much greater than the students who can pay their way. Call often, be very polite, and best of luck! 5

DongLian Posted February 18, 2015 at 01:06 PM Report Posted February 18, 2015 at 01:06 PM Hello guys 好久不见! lol I'm finishing up my materials.. will send everything by March 7th or so. Does anyone know if we are to apply for Visa right away or do we wait until we "get" the scholarship (acceptance letter or whatever). Thanks!
Xiaowei M Posted February 18, 2015 at 01:33 PM Report Posted February 18, 2015 at 01:33 PM @ DongLian We wait until we "get" the scholarship. When we apply for visa, we need admission letter and JW202 forms from university. University sends all of the required documents to students. Because I was awarded Confucius Institute Scholarship in 2012, I know about the application process for visa. Have you received a pre-admission letter?
ZhangKaiRong Posted February 18, 2015 at 02:31 PM Report Posted February 18, 2015 at 02:31 PM DongLian It's hard to apply for a student visa if you cannot prove at the Consulate that you're going to be a student...
mcytrynbaum Posted February 18, 2015 at 04:10 PM Report Posted February 18, 2015 at 04:10 PM Hey - I am based in the UK, and I have been unable to access the csc.edu.cn family of websites these past few days - it seems like they are down. These are the websites with detailed information about all the different scholarshp programs, universities, etc... Is anyone else having this problem by any chance?
DongLian Posted February 18, 2015 at 08:08 PM Report Posted February 18, 2015 at 08:08 PM @Xiaowei Yes I have a pre-admissions letter.. I didn't know if that was enough or not. I suppose I can email my contact at the university and ask when they will send the formal admission letter but I will prob just wait until the scholarship is confirmed. I just didn't know how long visa processing took for students.. I can't remember how long my working visa took a few years ago.
Xiaowei M Posted February 18, 2015 at 08:21 PM Report Posted February 18, 2015 at 08:21 PM @ DongLian Don`t worry, it doesn`t take long time to get visa as a scholarship student. But you have to wait to have the scholarship approved by the CSC and to get admission letter from the uni in accordance with the CSC`s decision.
DongLian Posted February 18, 2015 at 08:23 PM Report Posted February 18, 2015 at 08:23 PM @Xiaowei good stuff.. thanks.. Just making sure as I don't want any surprises!! I'm so anxious over this whole process haha!
shuoshuo Posted February 18, 2015 at 10:41 PM Report Posted February 18, 2015 at 10:41 PM DongLian - the results are usually announced early July or late July, but for some strange reason the officials announced my result late August last year (so late!), but the uni contacted me on July 2 (so they already knew about my result by then), and the embassy contacted me on July 5th if I'm not mistaken. But yeah, you will probably get the official result early July. Which means you will have all of August to process your visa. It takes approximately 1 week to process the visa (for most countries). *Remember that when you get to China, you will have to convert your visa to a resident's permit as soon as you can.
lfyin Posted February 19, 2015 at 03:27 AM Report Posted February 19, 2015 at 03:27 AM Hey Shuoshuo, thanks so much for your response.@Dong Lian, How did you get your per-admissions notice? Where is it for, and how long did it take? I will call the Universities as soon as they are all back from holiday!
lfyin Posted February 19, 2015 at 03:31 AM Report Posted February 19, 2015 at 03:31 AM I just read that Peking University Chinese language program application doesn't open until March 1, for the September intake. Please let me know how you all got your admission letters so early. Thanks!
英泰inte Posted February 19, 2015 at 08:50 AM Report Posted February 19, 2015 at 08:50 AM Donglian了不起! you are ahead of us! i still need recommendation letters and college transcript. I am in the same boat as Ifyin; how did you call the university Dong Lian? did you use your house phone and dial +86, or did you use skype?
英泰inte Posted February 19, 2015 at 09:22 AM Report Posted February 19, 2015 at 09:22 AM @inte, I don't know what happened, maybe you are right, but that friend hasn't replied to me yet, so I am looking for other ways to apply for a scholarship. Can I introduce one agency number, submit the application for one time of scholarship and then introduce another agency number for another scholarship? @Andreea, usually people only apply one scholarship at a time, so no need to introduce two different agency numbers. the committee would be so confused if they see two different scholarship applications for one person. but if your friend used Romania's embassy number on his application, maybe he did this: first your friend copied the original documents. he then sent copies to his university, then copied more and sent those (with his scholarship application) to romania's chinese embassy? how would you feel about applying through your embassy?
Xiaowei M Posted February 19, 2015 at 09:43 AM Report Posted February 19, 2015 at 09:43 AM @ andreea and inte You are allowed to apply twice or more times. I read in the forum that last year some applicants (for graduate studies) applied for both Bilateral Program and Chinese University Program. And they were awarded the scholarships!
ZhangKaiRong Posted February 19, 2015 at 10:35 AM Report Posted February 19, 2015 at 10:35 AM @Xiaowei In theory, you can. However, if you apply for two programs, then CSC has authority to decide which one to fund for you - and it can be a bad change for you. My former classmate applied for a Master's with one of the Municipality scholarship and for a language program with EU Window. The university with the Master's program then noticed him that he already won a language program with CSC, therefore they couldn't enroll him to the Master's program. @Ifyin BeiDa now welcomes language scholarship students again? Back in 2010-2012, you couldn't be enrolled to BeiDa as a CSC language scholarship student... Aiming for BeiDa sounds a good plan, but be a little bit more realistic and have some plan B as well, because getting into C9 universities can be a tough road as a language scholarship student.
