@knikkiboo and @Levinho

Oh, that means that our change in status is probably because the CSC already has our applications, meaning that we were preselected if they are going to post only the final result. Good luck to us now... it's just waiting game.

I have applied to a master in quantitative economics at Fudan University. No answer untill now, the laihua status changed to checking long ago. The answers usually come out in late june, but a lot of universities already contacted their selected students. Has anyone applied to Fudan here? I'm thinking of sending an email to the ISO but probably they won't answer and will get irritated.

@BITstudent. Very true,the process is quite murky because apparently even those involved seem to have no clue either. The only solid answer we get is "wait till July". It aint easy, but we gotta do what we gotta do, right?

@BITstudent I applied for Fudan, but only for the language program. I emailed them at ISO and I heard back from them the next day (13 hour time difference) and they told me that they could not find my application, but I am in a special case where I did not apply directly to the school iteself, but through my school in the US through a 3rd party study abroad program. I suggest you email them and make sure you tell them your name and application number so they can find your record. Also, attach the letter if CSC has sent you one  in the email already.

@ ai_feixing, true that!

@ Nnedi Ugo, thank you!

Fellow Applicants from around the globe, I suggest that if anyone sees an announcement of pre-selected candidates on any website be it university or embassy site, please post the link on this forum so that if per adventure someone here has been listed but doesn't know, he or she can follow the link

Did you apply to the school or through an embassy?

I applied to Fudan (through the school) for a masters program. My status hasn't updated. I called them once to make sure they got my application info (they did) and another time later to ask for updates, which they wouldn't give. So...who knows.

When I applied for the program, there was 0 contact until they sent an e-mail to me telling me that I got accepted. They don't give a lot of updates or information.

@洋人丹

I have applied through the China embassy in Brazil, I knew very little about chinese scholarships at that time and the deadline was close, so I haven't got any letter of pre-admission. The brazilian ministry of external relations conducted a pre-selection process, there was 37 people pre-selected for 17 scholarships. I believe that, among the brazilians, I will be one of the 17 choosen.

My concern is about the universities in China. I have a bachlelor of Social Sciences by a brazilian university and worked 4 years at the brazilian central government afterwards, mainly with social policies. Despite this background I've applied to a master in quantitative economics. I fear they will consider my lack of a math background a problem and won't accept me. I actually know calculus and other undergraduate mathematics, but I didn't learned it through formal education.

If I have applied directly to the university I would be rejected I believe. But, there is a quota of 17 scholarships to Brazil and they will try to fill it, so, probably I will be accepted. This is my theory, if anyone know something more, please tell me.

洋人丹 are you already in china finishing the language program and applied to a masters?

right, that is actually also my concern. the "no.of applicants vs. quota requirement" is indeed a rational way (theory) of justifying a sure acceptance for the scholarship. ideally, if the number of applicants=quota, then all applicants should all be accepted, regardless of competencies in that sense. But still no idea regarding this. For our country (Philippines), there are "rumors" that there are only four slots and four applicants for this year, if the "theory" holds true, then I should get accepted, but Im trying my best to gather more info locally if this "rumor" is indeed true. No luck so far, probably because there are indeed only a few who wanted to apply to China for a scholarship here in the Philippines. But nothing is final yet until the end of July.

Good luck with your application.

No, I've been living in China for about 8 years. I decided I wanted to go back to school, haha.

I can tell you a few things about Fudan's application process (at least according to their website).

1. You can apply directly to the school first, if you get accepted, then you can apply for their scholarship.

2. They say that you must get accepted by the scholarship committee before they will offer a pre-admissions letter, but if you listed them as your first choice I'm sure that process will be a bit different.

Maybe someone can back me up on this, but a lot of people this year seem to be getting pre-admissions after getting the scholarship itself.

REGARDLESS I would try contacting Fudan, or a professor in the program you want to do. I contacted a professor who said she would more than happy to be my adviser and has helped me out a lot in the process. If you find someone who is interested, I'm sure that can help a bunch.

Also, I wouldn't worry too much about the difference in majors. My bachelors was in Chinese studies with a focus in minority culture/policy. My masters is going to be in  Chinese classical literature. If you show the passion and that you've prepared, you certainly can get in.

@lambilyforever, I've replied to your PM. But if anyone has experienced the same thing and understands your situation, my answer is yes, I think you will be awarded the scholarship. Very happy for you.

Hi all!

I've been lurking on this forum over the past couple days, reading over basically all the posts in this thread and the ones from the 2014 thread -- relieved to finally find people who have even heard of this scholarship with whom I could talk haha. Thanks for all the helpful information, everyone!

I just have some questions to ease my mind: I'm just applying for a year of language study. Last month, I received a letter via email from Ms. Bu Huanfang of the Chinese Embassy of the U.S. saying that I was awarded the "Chinese Government Scholarship candidacy" and was strongly encouraged to use the attached award letter to contact my desired university for pre-admission. I did that, received the pre-admission notice, and sent that on to the Embassy on time and everything via the email they provided.

1) I've done all that, though I never heard back, but is that fairly normal in this process? (It seems to be from what I've gathered.)
2) Also, is the award letter that I received the same award letter that secures me a spot in my country's quota? (That question is mostly directed @shuoshuo, who discussed her experience with that a few times in these threads, but whoever has any knowledge will be helpful!) I'm just trying to make sure I've done everything I'm supposed to, haha.

3) Also, since I gave them a pre-admission notice from my first-choice university, is it likely that I would be placed at that university if I received the scholarship?

Thanks for all your help everyone, and hopefully see some of you in China this fall? :)

@shuoshuo

thank you for helping us make sense of the application process. That is indeed a good news, it helped to at least manage my expectations.

And given your comments, I decided to call TJNU and ask if they already have an admission letter for me. They said that they already processed my application and that I should expect the admission results/admission letter in one month. And they also reiterated that CSC has the final say for the scholarship. But like you said, I am really hoping that the recommendation from my embassy (as I applied through our local embassy), and the "yes" approval of TJNU is really enough reason for CSC to accept me. The waiting game is indeed the most difficult part of this process.

Again, thank you for all the help @shuoshuo

@SeaChele

A fellow yank, let me see if I can shed some light for you.

First thing's first: What university did you submit the pre-admission letter for? I have contacted Ms. Bu, as well as CSC, and my university, and there are a few things that have become clear.

1) Your online application status really doesnt matter (which I mentioned a month ago or so), and the online system really is for just formatting an application to physically send to CSC. Maybe it's different for other countries... which brings me to my next discovery.

2) As an American, we have a pretty sizable quota for scholarships. I applied to 3 schools, go pre admission for all of them, but not the exact program I wanted, contacted another school with a deadline of November 1st (2014) and, like the other schools I contacted, they asked where I was from, I said America, and they processed my application within a week. Now, this is not for all schools. The schools I am applying to require HSK 6, which is a hurdle for us monolingual Americans, yet it makes those with it a bit more competitive.

3) Ms. Bu is lovely, I've talked to her several times and she has directed me to a colleague who is in charge of the school I am aiming for. When I told her that I wanted to send a pre-admission letter that wasnt one of the universities on the application they had, she said 没问题, and said all that matters is the name on the pre-admission letter. The fact that you have only been more timely, and more direct, makes me think youll be just find.

Again, these are all only my opinions and what I've gathered. Also, the ladies at CSC are very nice, but they have no ability to release and info until at least July, so save your-and their-time and be patient!

Good luck y'all

Just wondering if anyone here is waiting for the list of CSC awardees from Xiamen University ?  They will post the list in June but I've read that last year they were emailing awardees in May.. I know we should wait but I'm so tired of this nervous game  :wall  feels like eternity..
