Translation exchange?

Recommended Posts

Posted

I was a bit unsure where to post this, as this is not exactly related to building Chinese skills, but anyway:

I am sure many people are familiar with language exchange websites where learners help other people learn their native language.

What I am looking for is similiar: For a website partially aimed at Chinese users, I want to publish Chinese content regularly. Nothing particularly fancy or elaborate, just basic information with the only requirement that the Chinese sentences are gramatically correct.

For that reason I am looking for advanced Chinese students of English or German who want to have their writing corrected and who in return would be willing to translate some simple texts for me.

Can anybody kindly give me some pointers where I could find these kind of people?

Before people start prematurely accusing me of explointing unpaid workers, I want to clarify: For every minute the Chinese person is translating my text, I will spend a minute correcting his/her texts, so it will be completely fair.

Thanks

Agree that Lang8 might work, but you will need to sift through a lot of users who are not able to do quite what you want. Think of finding an appropriate translation partner there as something that might happen eventually if you devote enough time to the project and get lucky.

If you do match up with someone there, then take your interchange off the website and continue it directly between the two of you. Lang8 generates a huge amount of "junk mail" such as "friend requests" and idle chat that will fill your "in box" to overflowing in no time flat. The website software itself generates excess nuisance "notifications" that are difficult or impossible to selectively turn off.

At least that's been my experience there.

Just sign up with a mailinator.com email address.  Problem solved.

Yes, (as usual) you are right. (smile)

Does anyone know a person gets so many friend requests?  I rec'd a bunch before I'd really even done anything.  Do you get points for having the most friends or does it have a multiplier effect on the # of points rec'd?  Clueless.
