Stoutcat Posted February 27, 2015 at 08:22 PM Report Share Posted February 27, 2015 at 08:22 PM Trying to find out what the marks on the bottom of this beautiful charger or low bowl mean. I don't even know if they're Chinese, but thought you all might be able to at least point me in the right direction. Many thanks!
889 Posted February 27, 2015 at 09:08 PM Report Share Posted February 27, 2015 at 09:08 PM The mark is 愛陶, read Aitao in Chinese and probably read Aitō in Japanese. There are kilns with this name in both Japan and China, but I believe this is the mark used by the Japanese kiln. Of course, it's also possible the Japanese kiln has moved production to China, I don't know. Search "Love Ceramics," though whether this is the same company that made your piece, I don't know either.
