anonymoose Posted February 28, 2015 at 04:01 AM Report Posted February 28, 2015 at 04:01 AM The signese forum seems to have died a death (or should I say, become Skylee's personal travelogue), possibly because it's difficult to find. Anyway, I know a lot of users here haven't been to China, so I thought I'd share a few pictures of Chinese text (signs and whatnot), for people to see real Chinese in everyday use. Edit: Sorry about the pictures being sideways. Blame my iPad for that. Quote
889 Posted February 28, 2015 at 04:48 AM Report Posted February 28, 2015 at 04:48 AM Sort of useless to post them like that. Why don't you cancel this thread and repost when you can orient them the right way. 2 Quote
xuexiansheng Posted February 28, 2015 at 05:14 AM Report Posted February 28, 2015 at 05:14 AM my neck hurts... But thanks for sharing the signage! Quote
skylee Posted February 28, 2015 at 05:18 AM Report Posted February 28, 2015 at 05:18 AM Re #1, sorry for making singese my travelog. I will certainly stop posting there and let it die a real death. The photo orientation is a real problem that the admin does not seem to care (so far). 1 Quote
anonymoose Posted February 28, 2015 at 05:39 AM Author Report Posted February 28, 2015 at 05:39 AM Re #1, sorry for making singese my travelog. No need to apologize. It wasn't a criticism against you. It's more just a comment that no one else seems to use it. The photo orientation is a real problem I didn't know that would be the case when I started writing the post. I will reorient them when I have a chance. Quote
skylee Posted February 28, 2015 at 06:31 AM Report Posted February 28, 2015 at 06:31 AM I meant it was a real problem that the admin should deal with. But perhap it is a problem with my cell phones? I don't know. Many of my normal-looking photos are shown in a wrong orientation (portrait -> landscape) having been uploaded from my cell phones (Samsung Note 2 and Note 4) to this website. I (and another user IIRC) have mentioned it before but it is still like this. Quote
Flickserve Posted February 28, 2015 at 02:52 PM Report Posted February 28, 2015 at 02:52 PM You need to re-orientate the photos before attaching them into the post. I don't know how it's done in a phone as I usually reorientate on the computer. 1 Quote
anonymoose Posted February 28, 2015 at 06:40 PM Author Report Posted February 28, 2015 at 06:40 PM They were oriented the right way on my iPad. Quote
imron Posted March 1, 2015 at 02:51 AM Report Posted March 1, 2015 at 02:51 AM The iPhone/iPad doesn't ever orient the photos, it sets a flag in the file's metadata that says 'left side is up' or 'bottom side is up' etc. When you upload images to most websites the metadata is wiped (for a variety of reasons, but often because it can contain personal information such as image location and whatnot), and this includes the rotation flag, and traditionally (before the iPhone came out) people rarely used that flag anyway, and just rearranged the order of the bytes of the image so that the top was at the top. What then happens is a picture that originally had the left side as the top with a flag saying 'left is top', is now just an image rotated to the left. This problem also happens with image software that ignores the orientation flag. Quote
