Angelina Posted March 4, 2015 at 11:47 PM Report Posted March 4, 2015 at 11:47 PM It will be difficult to alter these two characters into something meaningful that you would want as a tattoo. Perhaps more characters can be added and a comma put between 尼 and 可 (or their modifications). Maybe even write something in classical Chinese and make it vertical. A poem about regret? 1 Quote
Kenny同志 Posted March 5, 2015 at 03:38 AM Report Posted March 5, 2015 at 03:38 AM I just wish people would realise that English names can seldom be "translated". Only meaningless phonetic approximations can be found. I can tell you this is not entirely true. Shakespeare can be translated as 謝詩丕. Chris can be translated as 柯睿思. Linda can be translated as 林妲. Roddy, 弱弟, which means little brother in classical Chinese Imron, 愛某人, or 憶某人, depending on how it is pronounced Alice, 愛李四 Realmayo, 正宗麻油 Anonymoose, 阿羅你莫死 Joanna, 救安娜 Mike, 賣柯, which means selling firewood John, 囧 And finally, liuzhou can be translated as 留粥. 1 Quote
Kenny同志 Posted March 5, 2015 at 05:32 AM Report Posted March 5, 2015 at 05:32 AM I know liuzhou is 柳州. I was just joking. In fact, 留粥 reminds me of 陳芸, wife of 沈三白, who 藏粥侍夫. Well, at that time, 三白 is not her husband yet. Quote
Kamille Posted March 5, 2015 at 06:31 AM Report Posted March 5, 2015 at 06:31 AM I like your translations, Kenny Especially 囧 for John Quote
Kenny同志 Posted March 5, 2015 at 06:54 AM Report Posted March 5, 2015 at 06:54 AM Thanks Kamille. Quote
imron Posted March 5, 2015 at 12:45 PM Report Posted March 5, 2015 at 12:45 PM I can tell you this is not entirely true. Hence 'seldom' depending on how it is pronounced. 憶 rather than 愛. But neither are quite right. I would also say that those are still transliterations rather than translations. 1 Quote
Guest realmayo Posted March 5, 2015 at 12:49 PM Report Posted March 5, 2015 at 12:49 PM Only meaningless phonetic approximations can be found Perhaps Zhuangzi 同志 was taking issue with "meaningless"? Quote
Kenny同志 Posted March 5, 2015 at 12:57 PM Report Posted March 5, 2015 at 12:57 PM 憶 rather than 愛. But neither are quite right. I see. I have difficulty pronouncing your name. : ( I would also say that those are still transliterations rather than translations. Yes, but they mean something. Perhaps Zhuangzi 同志 was taking issue with "meaningless"? Yes, Mayo. Quote
skylee Posted March 5, 2015 at 01:53 PM Report Posted March 5, 2015 at 01:53 PM How about skylee? Quote
Kenny同志 Posted March 5, 2015 at 02:23 PM Report Posted March 5, 2015 at 02:23 PM 錯,Skylee 應該是李穹。Sky者,穹也!Lee,李姓也。哈哈。 Edit: 順便說下 Kenny Woo 如何翻譯。Kenny,可立;Woo,吳。合為吳可立。 1 Quote

skylee Posted March 7, 2015 at 05:11 AM Report Posted March 7, 2015 at 05:11 AM 穹 sounds the same as 窮. Bad idea for a name. I think 小開 is quite good, it sounds prosperous and happy. 李小開 or 木子小開 sound nice. And if someone is mad at me, he/she could just say 死開! Quote
