JustinJJ Posted March 8, 2015 at 12:04 PM Report Posted March 8, 2015 at 12:04 PM Hi there, does anyone know if any freely available lists on the internet which show common/useful sentences I'm a language? My aim is to get my girlfriend to record a bunch of sentences mandarin-kunminghua so I can create a glossika-like set of recorded sentences to Listen to / practise the dialect. Thx Quote
OneEye Posted March 8, 2015 at 12:33 PM Report Posted March 8, 2015 at 12:33 PM I bet your girlfriend could get in touch with Mike at Glossika and offer to collaborate with him on a Kunminghua course. I know a while back he was looking for collaborators on pretty much any language, and I don't think he's started Kunminghua yet. Then you get a course and she gets paid, 一舉兩得. Quote
fabiothebest Posted March 8, 2015 at 03:02 PM Report Posted March 8, 2015 at 03:02 PM I'm in the same situation but for another Chinese dialect. I did contact Mike, unfortunately he doesn't accept recommendations..he takes suggestions as an offense for his work.. 1 Quote
pross Posted March 9, 2015 at 05:25 AM Report Posted March 9, 2015 at 05:25 AM Have you considered ripping sentences from an existing shared anki deck? e.g. https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/2003820603 I think the world would benefit from a wikipedia version of glossika, where anyone can contribute sentence audio. While http://tatoeba.org/ is similar to this, it lacks a curated list of useful sentences, and there's no incentive/reward mechanism for contributors. Quote
AlexBlackman Posted March 9, 2015 at 05:44 AM Report Posted March 9, 2015 at 05:44 AM @Pross - That'd be a brilliant idea, though quality control may be an issue. Quote
imron Posted March 9, 2015 at 06:28 AM Report Posted March 9, 2015 at 06:28 AM Which is more or less the same problem tatoeba faces. I don't think you'll get reliable data unless you have people paid to develop it. Quote
JustinJJ Posted March 22, 2015 at 04:39 AM Author Report Posted March 22, 2015 at 04:39 AM Thanks for the responses and sorry for the late reply. I think I'll selectively go through an anki sentence deck and cherry pick sentences from there for her to record. Cheers Quote
