nhlktl Posted March 11, 2015 at 01:42 AM Report Posted March 11, 2015 at 01:42 AM Hi everyone, I have applied to the Nankai University via INTO China agency and I have got the unconditional offer today. However, Is there anybody heard about this agency how reliable is? I saw their link on the Nankai's official website and I thought it is okay. However, I need to do some payments to confirm my place but I don't wanna do that without being sure. Additionally, the insurance plan they offer seems a bit expensive which costs ¥3,530 for a year by a private company (AXA Global Group), is it payable?Beside those things, if anyone knows anything about this, please share your experiences and information! abcdefg Posted March 11, 2015 at 05:08 AM Report Posted March 11, 2015 at 05:08 AM Insurance looks pricy, at least for a young, healthy person. What's the cost of the rest of this agency's services? Couldn't you apply directly to the university without the middle-man or broker? Quote
ChTTay Posted March 11, 2015 at 06:41 AM Report Posted March 11, 2015 at 06:41 AM What does the insurance cover? If it covers every trip to a hospital, regardless of what it is, then I could see it being expensive. if it's just accident insurance then you find it a lot cheaper online. I agree you should try apply directly or use something like CUCAS which I think a lot of people have used to apply to Unis without much of a problem. It's at least a well known middle man. Quote

eion_padraig Posted March 11, 2015 at 08:02 AM Report Posted March 11, 2015 at 08:02 AM INTO is a company that started by recruiting foreign students into UK universities. They've expanded into recruiting students into a handful of American ones. I've met some of their recruiters who focus on international students heading to the UK and the US.I thought their program in Nankai was just for their medical program, but maybe I'm remembering that incorrectly. The people I've met working for them (both Chinese and folks from the UK) seem competent. I suspect that Nankai entered into this relationship because they felt it would increase the number of foreign students they'd be able to enroll. That's essentially what INTO promises. For what it's worth, I'd say they're a pretty solid company from what I've seen. I don't know what they are in charge of at Nankai beyond admission. They may very well run student services for international students too. 1 Quote
roddy Posted March 11, 2015 at 10:00 AM Report Posted March 11, 2015 at 10:00 AM Before you commit, look at how much it'd cost you to apply directly to Nankai, and what the differences are. I appreciate it can seem intimidating to head to China independently with no Chinese, but thousands of people do it every year. There may be some important differences (whether you can use Chinese courses as university credit back home might be an important one), but often the extras are trips which you can do yourself (and probably with greater benefit to your Chinese) and cultural and social activities, which anyone can create for themselves. 2 Quote
nhlktl Posted March 11, 2015 at 11:54 AM Author Report Posted March 11, 2015 at 11:54 AM Even if the insurance covers many things that the other insurances do not cover, I don't think I will use those services so it will not be that necessary to pay that kind of expensive fee. However, I applied via that agency because its student support service as @roddy mentioned seemed to be very helpful regarding that I have no speak Chinese. But I guess I will take it slowly since Nankai is not my first choice and I will wait for results from other universities that I have applied for. Thank you all for your comments ;) Quote
