New Members joejoe Posted April 2, 2015 at 10:52 PM New Members Report Posted April 2, 2015 at 10:52 PM I work as a commercial diver, and found a dinner plate set with serving bowls etc whilst on a job in the sea. One if the items is marked with the text shown in the picture attached. Is it Chinese? And if so, what does it say? many thanks. Quote
skylee Posted April 4, 2015 at 08:59 AM Report Posted April 4, 2015 at 08:59 AM My network is slow and I can't download the photo. But it looks like "大清咸豐年(製)" (made during the years of Xianfeng (ie 1851-1861) of the Qing Dynasty of China). Quote

New Members joejoe Posted April 4, 2015 at 11:51 PM Author New Members Report Posted April 4, 2015 at 11:51 PM Having looked at Qing Dynasty markings, it would appear that these markings indicate Guangxu 1975 - 1908. Any ideas why this would be in the sea in Scotland?? Quote
imron Posted April 6, 2015 at 12:25 PM Report Posted April 6, 2015 at 12:25 PM Definitely not Guangxu. I agree with skylee. Quote
skylee Posted April 6, 2015 at 12:31 PM Report Posted April 6, 2015 at 12:31 PM Just in case the OP is not yet aware, the dish should be turned about 90 degrees anti-clockwise and those Chinese characters should be read vertically first the right column then the left column. Quote
anonymoose Posted April 6, 2015 at 01:08 PM Report Posted April 6, 2015 at 01:08 PM I agree with Skylee. By the way, you should remove the barnacles. Quote
