Shelley Posted April 9, 2015 at 01:13 PM Author Report Posted April 9, 2015 at 01:13 PM I do try to have a few things to chose from depending on my mood, flashcards real and/or Pleco, textbook reading and/or exercises, listening practice, writing practice, and other reading material. I hope having all this choice means there is always something i fancy doing. On the rare days when nothing suits I satisfy myself with some Chinese TV, nothing worse than forcing yourself do something that is for me supposed to be a pleasure. Quote
AdamD Posted April 10, 2015 at 12:34 AM Report Posted April 10, 2015 at 12:34 AM What a great thread. I've spent the past four months consuming Chinese content (audio and text) and not communicating at all, primarily because I hit a wall and couldn't see a way around it. Last night I started communicating with people again, and was surprised at how my comprehension has improved: I need to look up far fewer words than I used to, and I can understand a lot of recorded sentences after only a couple of plays. My construction of written text doesn't seem to have taken much of a hit at all in that time, which is a big surprise. Sometimes it really is worth changing tack completely, giving all your attention to your deficiencies and not panicking about the things you're not doing. Most plateaus are an illusion as long as you persist. Quote
Demonic_Duck Posted April 10, 2015 at 08:14 AM Report Posted April 10, 2015 at 08:14 AM Very much agree with all the people suggesting to switch it up if things are getting stale. I think what Angelina said is important too - if you're content to rest on your laurels, you won't improve. Quote
