GotJack Posted April 18, 2015 at 02:57 AM Report Posted April 18, 2015 at 02:57 AM Hi guys, So I find myself in a bit of a pickle. I'm currently waiting at hangzhou station to go I shanghai . Ok didn't pre book as normally don't have any issues, anyhow the earliest train I can get arrives in shanghai 28 mins before the exam starts and baidu says it takes approx 28 mins to get to the exam place. So my question is what happens if I arrive late? (Which is most likely). From a website I understand if I'm 5 mins late I have to wait u til the listening section is over and then I can enter. Thi would be awful though as it means I'm going to score 0 on 33% of the exam? Can anyone confirm this? Quote
Touchstone57 Posted April 18, 2015 at 03:02 AM Report Posted April 18, 2015 at 03:02 AM I think it depends on who is administering the exam - you might get lucky and they will just let you in to sit the exam (i've seen it happen before). Quote
GotJack Posted April 18, 2015 at 03:25 AM Author Report Posted April 18, 2015 at 03:25 AM So crisis over, I very fortunately spotted another foreigner in a que for an early train. Explained the situation and he very kindly swapped tickets with me. He was kinda nervous that he won't be allowed on without a matching passport number but I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter once your on the train. Anyhow I'm on an early train now and he'll be on the later train with mine. Just hope the conductor doesn't care now about me having a ticket for someone else! Also It be nice to get in touch with the guy to send him a gift and thankyou ( he wouldn't accept any money at the time) I have his passport on last name so hopefully can track him down. Quote

NotChinese Posted April 19, 2015 at 05:51 AM Report Posted April 19, 2015 at 05:51 AM Haha, bold move. Last time someone was in a rush at a train station and asked me to let them go ahead of them, I was a stickler and said no. Then again, I was in a queue for Burger King . I was just shocked by how this person oh-so wanted to get a burger king meal before their train. Plenty of other faster options about. Hope the exam went well. And I wonder if it really took 28 minutes to get from Shanghai station to the exam centre? I find Baidu often vastly overestimates travel times. Quote
GotJack Posted April 21, 2015 at 11:06 AM Author Report Posted April 21, 2015 at 11:06 AM So good ending to the story, It took far longer than 28 minutes, so I would have been screwed had I not swapped. I feel like I aced the test, and ending up bumping into the chap in the bar of the hostel I was staying in on the Saturday evening. So obviously bought him a few beers and thoroughly thanked him. Couldn't have asked for a better conclusion! 4 Quote
