skylee Posted April 20, 2015 at 11:18 PM Report Share Posted April 20, 2015 at 11:18 PM That is not "seal" script. It says 戊申夏六月子祥張熊 —> Wushen Year, summer, the sixth month, Zixiang, Zhang Xiong The painter was Zhang Xiong, also known as Zixiang. The scroll was painted in the sixth month of Wushen year (2028, 1968, 1908, 1848 etc, 60-year cycle). This painter's works are in some museums' collections, so your scroll might be of aome value. http://www.britishmuseum.org/research/search_the_collection_database/term_details.aspx?bioId=135386

summersun7 Posted April 22, 2015 at 08:56 PM Author Report Share Posted April 22, 2015 at 08:56 PM I appreciate your help. It allowed me to do some digging of my own and I see he was a famous artist in his time. One of his works is also at the metropliten museum of art: Titled: Flowers and birds. Dated: 1878 Accession number: 1986.267.38 And his works have also sold at Christie's Auction House before. I see he is famous for spring and summer scenes. But I have a rather large one of Buddist temples and mountains. I have seen on on ebay selling for $19,000 But I appreciate you taking time out of your busy day to help me. Thank you very much.
