Lou Posted May 1, 2015 at 10:13 AM Report Share Posted May 1, 2015 at 10:13 AM Hey! Yet another problem arose with a sentence...*lol*. The title of the NPCR-lesson 18 is "我聽懂了,可是記錯了/我听懂了,可是记错了。" They translate it with "I understood what I was told, but remembered it wrongly." Yup, I see all the words, but shouldn't it be: 我聽懂了,可是記得錯了。 我听懂了,可是记得错了。 I recently was confused by a similar thing (verb was described with an adverb, but no 得 was used to link them) and it turned out that the verb in fact was a gerund, hence not in need of a 得. But in this case, I don't think 記 is a gerund, so why is there no 得 to link 記 and 錯? Thanks you all!
Tiana Posted May 1, 2015 at 12:20 PM Report Share Posted May 1, 2015 at 12:20 PM It's easy to get confused with things that we're not familiar with. For your question, try this: If you agree that 听懂 is fine without needing a 得 in between, then 记错 is grammatically the same as 听懂, so there is no need for a 得 in between. anonymoose Posted May 1, 2015 at 02:56 PM Report Share Posted May 1, 2015 at 02:56 PM Just think of 记错 as a word meaning "remember incorrectly".
歐博思 Posted May 1, 2015 at 03:07 PM Report Share Posted May 1, 2015 at 03:07 PM These also go into more detail about the grammar: http://resources.allsetlearning.com/chinese/grammar/Potential_complement http://resources.allsetlearning.com/chinese/grammar/Result_complement
Vildhjerp Posted May 1, 2015 at 07:42 PM Report Share Posted May 1, 2015 at 07:42 PM Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think 记 alone represents the attempt of trying to remember something without indicating what the actual result is. Adding a 得 indicates that the attempt was successful and adding a 错 indicates that it was not successful. 记得 - remember correctly (the 得 isn't being used as a "linking" particle here) 记错 - remember incorrectly Therefore, 记得错 wouldn't make much sense. "To correctly remember the incorrect memory?" Nah, doesn't work.
