What are differences between and when to use 说明, 解释, 讲解 ?? tooironic Posted May 5, 2015 at 02:41 AM Report Share Posted May 5, 2015 at 02:41 AM My feeling is 解釋 and 說明 are basically the same if you're talking about translating the word "explain" into Chinese... except maybe 說明 is more formal. When in doubt I would use 解釋. @coolnicholas is right though that 講解 is more appropriate in this context, since it is a teacher who is doing the explaining.
