New Members karenmb60 Posted May 18, 2015 at 11:42 PM New Members Report Posted May 18, 2015 at 11:42 PM I posted this to Art & Lit first but think I should have posted it here instead. I recently acquired a Chinese painting and would so appreciate it if I could get a translation for the title and signature. Thanks so much!!! Quote
Kamille Posted May 20, 2015 at 09:09 AM Report Posted May 20, 2015 at 09:09 AM 天龍?鳥得勢 驚天動地血戰 : "The sky dragon and the ???? bird are rising. A world-shaking bloody battle." Signed 芝山 (Zhi Shan) It sounds like an ad for some online video game Btw I can't make sense out of the third character. It doesn't look like any existing character. Anyway, chances are that it's an adjective modifying 鳥 (bird), so all in all understanding it is not necessary to get the meaning. It's not exatcly a phoenix but still likely some mythological (or fake mythological) bird. Some strokes are a bit weird though. And it mixes traditional and simplified characters. Quote
New Members karenmb60 Posted May 20, 2015 at 11:34 AM Author New Members Report Posted May 20, 2015 at 11:34 AM Thank you, Kamille! I should have posted the entire painting. There is an eagle in the painting, and they are battling over the flaming pearl. It is a reverse painting on glass I found at an estate sale recently. I really appreciate your help! Karen Quote
lingo-ling Posted May 21, 2015 at 09:08 AM Report Posted May 21, 2015 at 09:08 AM Looks to me like the third character may be 罵 - to scold. Quote
