Any Luck with Youku.com registration?

I want  to sign up. However, I am confused because it keeps asking me for my phone number. 

 

I don't understand. I do not live in mainland china. But, I was curious if there is any way to get around registration?

Does it not allow registration with international numbers (if you also include the appropriate international calling code, e.g. 0044 for the UK)?

Look at those symbols at the bottom of the registration popup: you can also log-on using your ID from certain other sites, like QQ. Try out those sites and see if one will allow registration with only an email address.

Everything in China now seems to require a phone number to sign up. But I'm guessing you already have a QQ account? Try using that. I signed up for Youku recently and had to use my phone number but I do live in China.

Not sure if this would work, or how much it would cost, but I found this:

It looks like you can get a virtual China number.

You need to be able to receive texts on the number you register on Youku and most other Chinese websites, and there's nothing I find on the Onesuite site that indicates you can text the numbers they're selling.
