Johnny20270 Posted June 17, 2015 at 01:07 PM Report Posted June 17, 2015 at 01:07 PM Hi all, does anyone have any opinions on what the levels of New Practical Chinese Reader 1-6 and how the correspond to the HSK levels? The publisher does say: NPCR has been compiled under the guidance of the new Hanban Syllabus and in consultation with the HSK Guideline but no further information that that Many thanks Quote
Frederik451 Posted June 17, 2015 at 02:05 PM Report Posted June 17, 2015 at 02:05 PM From personal experience i can tell you that i took HSK4 after finishing NPCR 4. But it's different from person to person. If you don't look into the vocab from the hsk lists while studying NPCR, you will miss quite a few words. Quote
xiaokaka Posted June 20, 2015 at 03:55 PM Report Posted June 20, 2015 at 03:55 PM The word lists and dialogues are (almost?) exactly the same in the second edition of NPCR as in the first, and books 5 and 6 were, not to my knowledge, even released in a second edition. And since the first edition was released in 2004 I would think that the wording used on the back cover is only for marketing purposes and is not true. But obviously there is still gonna be a high correlation between the two since both HSK and NPCR correlates with frequency data. Quote
Johnny20270 Posted June 20, 2015 at 04:51 PM Author Report Posted June 20, 2015 at 04:51 PM I had a look at both versions in the shop in Beijing recently. They do seem pretty similar. I actually bought both (3 and 4) as we are due to start a new book and its a toss up between 3 and 4. As there will be only two students in my class she has left it up to us. Looking at them it seems NPCR3 completed is short of HSK4 and NPCR4 is HSK 3.5 - 4.5 (if you can understand that logic) but I haven't really looked at them in dept so could be way off Quote
