I want to say I love football. - I mean that I myself like to play it and not just watch on TV, so I have to say 我爱好踢足球。

- Am I right?

I think both are OK.

I would use 喜歡 instead of 愛好.

爱好 is often to be used as noun. 我的爱好是足球 / 踢足球。My interesting 我的兴趣 / 爱好是...

You can use 足球 or 踢足球 based on the context. Listener can understand what you mean.

If I really had a passion for a hobby, would using 非常很喜欢.... be ok?

Pick either: 非常喜欢 or 很喜欢 (or 特别喜欢) is all okay, but you can't combine 非常很.
