New Members Horcsogg Posted July 8, 2015 at 08:18 AM New Members Report Share Posted July 8, 2015 at 08:18 AM Hi all, I have finished all the Pimsleur audios there is and now I would like to keep going learning Chinese with something similar as Pimsleur. I want the program that makes me think about a word and use it, passive listening is OK but I found with the one I used I could remember the words better if I have to say them separately or in a sentence during the program. Any audio program that teaches Chinese in a similar way would be appreciated, I would even be satisfied with something that teaches new words only in a similar way, it's fine if I don't have to say sentences. James3 Posted July 8, 2015 at 01:16 PM Report Share Posted July 8, 2015 at 01:16 PM Out of curiosity, when you say you've been through all of The Pimeur Method for Mandarin, do you mean all 4 volumes? I - IV?
New Members Horcsogg Posted July 8, 2015 at 03:03 PM Author New Members Report Share Posted July 8, 2015 at 03:03 PM Couldn't get a hold of the IVth yet, unfortunately... Thanks for the advice about Glossika, I will check it out.
Bigdumogre Posted July 24, 2015 at 01:25 PM Report Share Posted July 24, 2015 at 01:25 PM I ordered all my pimsleur through my library and put it on iTunes but they can't get IV. Which really sucks since pimsleur is great for sentence structure and the box sets are pretty expensive.
Johnny20270 Posted July 26, 2015 at 02:39 AM Report Share Posted July 26, 2015 at 02:39 AM Rossetta stone is similar to pimsleur, but allows for reading also and there is no English, uses pictures and visual aids etc. Its very "bells and whistle" but not bad. I've used all levels and its entertaining if anything having said that I wouldn't pay the full price for it so if you can it from your library it might be worth a look. As its software rather than a CD they probably don't stock it I had a look at Glossika, looks ok, $79 is pretty decent in my view for all that. Only a a handful of hours with a language teacher EDIT: pimsleur still puts you a beginner level. In all 3 levels they never introduced 把 and 被。 These are introduced in month 2 of a language course and are important (把 moreso) in the language. Also Pimsleur has a very English to Chinese way of speaking. A native speaker talking naturally will throw you as the order seems very different.
