militarygamer Posted July 19, 2015 at 03:44 AM Report Posted July 19, 2015 at 03:44 AM I want to meet some mainland Chinese business contacts in Hong Kong, preferred to be rich, middle aged, these people would have the capital for my business proposition To be frank I want to meet some local tyrants "土豪" to invest into my business or possibly to buy my products. It is hard to do business online nowadays as there are a lot of scams so I would like to meet people face to face. Any there any business venues, groups, activities, bars or clubs that I would likely to meet these kind of individuals during my stay in Hong Kong? Thanks Quote
roddy Posted July 19, 2015 at 10:30 AM Report Posted July 19, 2015 at 10:30 AM There's this place in Hong Kong. Seriously - if your best idea for finding investors is to come on to a forum dedicated in the main to learning Chinese and studying in China, you need to think again. There have got to be sites with a focus on actual business. Your home nation's Chamber of Commerce might be a good spot to start. 2 Quote
Lu Posted July 19, 2015 at 10:36 AM Report Posted July 19, 2015 at 10:36 AM I think the word you meant is 'tycoon' (rich businessperson) not 'tyrant' (oppressor). And don't call people 土豪 if you hope to work together, it's not a nice term. That said: try the local Chamber of Commerce, ask them what the local networking get-togethers are. Keep in mind that people might still cheat you if you meet them face to face. Always do lots of due diligence before placing an order or sending money. Good luck! 1 Quote
Shelley Posted July 19, 2015 at 01:37 PM Report Posted July 19, 2015 at 01:37 PM From some of the other posts from this OP he may well have meant tyrant Quote
somethingfunny Posted July 19, 2015 at 01:47 PM Report Posted July 19, 2015 at 01:47 PM Yeah, I'd love to know what this business proposition is exactly. Hopefully it involves Steven Seagal in some way... 2 Quote
Demonic_Duck Posted July 19, 2015 at 04:31 PM Report Posted July 19, 2015 at 04:31 PM I think the OP is getting the phrase "local tyrant" from a direct translation of “土豪”, most likely from CC-CEDICT, which defines it as "local tyrant, local strong man". A manager of a company I worked for previously openly described their investors as “土豪”, though this was at a company social event where said 土豪 were not present. Also, I'm not entirely sure the manager in question was a model of good business ethics... 1 Quote

Chris Two Times Posted October 6, 2015 at 03:25 PM Report Posted October 6, 2015 at 03:25 PM You could try Chungking mansions... (Get yourself a nice tailored suit while you're there, just for you sir) Just for you sir! Special price for you and only you on this day only! I do this for no other man! When it comes to kings, there's only one name in royalty...CHUNGKING! Business ops for tyrants AND tryants. I am intrigued. Actually not so intrigued, that was just a fleeting moment. Back to studying sentence structure patterns: A + 所 + 动词 + 的 + B [书面]。。。 Warm regards, Chris Two Time 1 Quote
