Shelley Posted August 1, 2015 at 10:59 PM Report Posted August 1, 2015 at 10:59 PM Just to avoid confusion the actual order is: 中國上海 = China, Shanghai Quote
edelweis Posted August 2, 2015 at 06:12 AM Report Posted August 2, 2015 at 06:12 AM Word-for-word, it's "China Shanghai". Meaning "the place called Shanghai, which lies in the bigger place called China". The Chinese always put the largest entity first. Doesn't it translate as "Shanghai, China" in English? Or is this American English only? Sorry, English is not my first language. Quote

Shelley Posted August 2, 2015 at 11:24 AM Report Posted August 2, 2015 at 11:24 AM The only reason I pointed it out was because if the OP knows no Chinese they may have confused the characters for China with the characters for Shanghai. Quote
