Koneko Posted June 14, 2005 at 12:21 PM Report Posted June 14, 2005 at 12:21 PM What is "紧箍咒"?? Can anyone please explain this to me? Is it a Buddhist term used to explain "headaches"? Which I think it's quite strange!? Quote
trevelyan Posted June 14, 2005 at 12:53 PM Report Posted June 14, 2005 at 12:53 PM Squeezing-Loop-Curse This comes from the book Journey to the West (aka. The Monkey King). Its the name of a cursed metal ring that a Bhuddist master gives the Monkey King (Sun Wukong). When Sun puts it on his head the master utters a curse and it begins to contract... a punishment for his engaging in violent behavior (I think). One hell of a headache, anyway. Quote
skylee Posted June 14, 2005 at 01:16 PM Report Posted June 14, 2005 at 01:16 PM Sun Wukong's biography -> http://sun-wukong.biography.ms/ There he [Monkey King Sun Wukong] remained imprisoned for five centuries until he offered to serve Sanzang, the Tang Priest , who was destined to make the journey to the West to retrieve the Buddhist scriptures for China. The bodhisattva Guanyin helped Sanzang by giving him a magical headband which Sanzang tricked Monkey into wearing. With a special chant Sanzang is able to tighten the band until Monkey cannot bear the pain. In that way he is brought to his true calling as a disciple of Buddha. Quote
