I hate to start a new thread to ask such a simple question BUT...

Whenever I try to type the word daughter: 女儿 in Microsoft word, "nu er" brings up somthing like this: 奴儿. I can cut and paste the info but it's ruining my typing rhythm.

How can I type that in if the IME doesn't let me enter an umlaut? Is this always a problem with the umlaut or is there something I'm not understanding about the language? (I'm a beginner transcribing Pimsleur Level I.)

Thanks.

Just type nv instead. Because there is no "v" in pinyin, they use that key instead.

I mucked around for ages before I found that out

hi

The pinyin for 女 is nu.

I use Njstar Chinese WP / Chinese Simplified Microsoft Pinyin Ime 3 for input.

Both these programs dont list this word.
